- Peer-to-Peer (P2P) เป็นแพลตฟอร์มแบบกระจายอำนาจโดยที่บุคคลสองคนโต้ตอบกันโดยตรงโดยไม่มีการไกล่เกลี่ยโดยบุคคลที่สามหรือไม่มีตัวกลางนั่นเอง ผู้ซื้อและผู้ขายทำธุรกรรมโดยตรงระหว่างกันผ่านบริการ P2P
- แพลตฟอร์ม P2P อาจให้บริการต่างๆ เช่น การค้นหา การคัดกรอง การให้คะแนน การประมวลผลการชำระเงิน
- การเคลื่อนไหวของ P2P เริ่มต้นจากการแชร์ไฟล์ เช่น การโหลดบิท เป็นต้น
- ในปี 1999, Sean Parker และ Shawn Fanning ได้พัฒนา Napster เป็นระบบ File Sharing แบบ P2P
- ในปี 2001, Bram Cohen ก็ได้พัฒนาโปรแกรม BitTorrent ที่ใช้งานกันอยู่ในปัจจุบัน
- ข้อดีของ P2P คือไม่มีคนกลางควบคุมและไม่ถูก Censorship จากบุคคลหรือองค์กรใด
- ข้อเสียของ P2P คือการกำกับดูแลทำได้ยาก เนื่องจากเป็นระบบแบบไม่มีตัวกลาง
